Refugees and Their Supporters

Hundred Burlington residents have demanded an end to restrictions on immigrants based on religion while others have opened their hearts to welcome refugees. We weren’t fooled when the Trump administration used country-of-origin as a proxy for religious belief and suspended immigration. However you disguise it, religious discrimination violates our constitutional rights. The First Amendment reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” I join with these protestors, our congressional delegation, our governor, and elected city officials in condemning any from of religious-based discrimination.
